Thanks for this input.

I'm not sure we should optimize for people who click the Pidgin icon
without knowing what it is nor what it could be useful for.

I'd rather optimize for users who would learn in the documentation
that there's an IRC support channel, an in this documentation, be
taught to start Pidgin, and to either use the pre-configured IRC
account, or setup a new one. If we go this way, there's no need to
tweak Pidgin to do anything special on first run.

Thoughts?
