I personally would use a wire where I can and wireless where I have to.
Creating the backbone of the network via cable means better
performances, at the least. The connections created via cable will just
be like the ones created with WiFi, just with better performances. For
example, in the network we set up for BattleMesh v15 in 2023, we wanted
to have access points in the seminar rooms, that were quite far away
from each other. And we wanted to share local contents over the whole
area. So, rather than installing additional routers on the roofs for
having the wireless links, we threw cables for connecting the routers
that were in the same building. You can see the representation of the

Mmh the Python interpreter is a bit too big for most routers. In OpenWrt
they used to use Lua. LibreMesh is written mostly in Lua and in Bash
(with exceptions like lime-app which uses JavaScript and TypeScript and
shared-state-async which is written in C++). Currently, OpenWrt is using
ucode https://ucode.mein.io/
