"E se poi riusciremo anche a garantire che pace e libertà tornino in Europa, che troveremo un equilibrio, infine anche con il nostro più grande vicino europeo, cioè la Russia – e non lo dico perché sono qui a est, lo dico anche ovunque in Germania: la Russia è un paese europeo.
Se riusciremo a trovare un equilibrio con la Russia nel lungo termine, se prevale la pace, se la libertà è garantita, se riusciremo in tutto questo, signore e signori, allora questa Unione Europea, allora noi nella Repubblica Federale di Germania avremo superato un'altra prova e potremo guardare al futuro con grande fiducia oltre il 2026."

Peace and freedom must return to Europe. This was stated by Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the New Year's reception of the Chambers of Commerce in Halle. It is essential to find a compromise with Russia.
