Dear all,
this is an extraordinary event. For all those who love Gaza and the whole
Palestine! Our association is part of the international network who
supports the "adventure". I hope you also are happy about that.

*HOORAY! THE GAZA INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL WILL GO AHEAD! SALAM
wa SUMUD (Peace and Resilience) From October 26th to 31st,* *in the heart
of the Gaza Strip, in Deir El Balah, the 79 selected films—short and
feature films, documentaries, and fiction—from 28 countries* will be
screened. A great example of cultural resistance, of life against
death! *Thanks
to the determination of its creator,* Ezzeldeen Shahl,* and those who
collaborated with him, both in Gaza and abroad, such as *Faten Tabel,
Mohammed Salih*, and a large international network that has formed this
year. There were fears that the Festival would be held online only, but a
few weeks after the evacuation and further destruction of Gaza City, the
possibility of holding it became reality. Therefore, it will take place,
from October 26th to 31st, as planned. The date chosen for the festival's
opening recalls Palestinian Women's Day and the first Palestinian Women's
Conference held in Jerusalem in 1929. The screen will be on a wall scarred
by fewer bullets than the others; in an open space, cleared of rubble and
debris. The cinema, without walls or roof, will welcome people of all ages,
along with their stories and wounds, their courage and resistance. *The
Festival will open with "The Voice of Hind Rajab" by Kaouther Ben Hania,
winner of the Silver Lion in Venice, screening tomorrow for the first time
in the Arab world. *The 79 films in the program, including documentaries,
short films, and feature-length fiction, come from 28 countries*. All
narrate the lives, voices, and struggles of women.
The honorary president is Monica Maurer, a director and researcher who has
been working on Palestinian visual memory for decades.
There are two juries: one for fiction films and one for documentaries. The
fiction jury is chaired by French screenwriter and director Céline Sciamma,
joined by Moroccan director Mohamed El Younsi, Italian actress Jasmine
Trinca, Palestinian writer and director Fajr Yacoub, and Algerian actress
and theater director Moni Boualam. Annemarie Jacir, director of the film
Palestine 36, representing Palestine at the Oscars, chairs the documentary
jury, along with Bahraini producer Bassim Al Thawadi, Italian producer
Graziella Bildesheim (president of the European Women's Audiovisual
Network), Kuwaiti director Abdulaziz Al-Sayegh, and Cuban editor Maricet
Sancristobal. Presented after Venice and Cannes, at numerous events both in
Rome and other cities, since yesterday this Festival has been twinned with
the Florence Film and Women Festival: a bridge of solidarity and sisterhood
across the Mediterranean, in the midst of genocide. *The countries where
the films are produced: *Italy, France, Iraq, Egypt, Morocco, Syria,
Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Canada, Sweden, United Arab
Emirates, Argentina, Iran, Australia, Belgium, Jordan, Sudan, Kenya, Yemen,
Saudi Arabia, Australia, Germany, Finland, Denmark, *
*"Cinema is our voice when the world doesn't listen to us. It's the light
that stays on, even under the rubble," recalls Ezzeldeen Shahl.*

DC. It was founded for the women actions against the NATO summit 2023 in
Vilnius/Brussels.
