Buster
Hi,
anonym and I decided yesterday to merge feature/buster into devel;
then, building on top of that, anonym merged devel into testing
and froze it to prepare 4.0~beta1.
Our next release (3.16), scheduled for September 3, will be a bugfix
one and based on Debian 9 (Stretch).
The next one, scheduled for October 22, may be:
- either a bugfix one (3.17) based on Stretch;
- or a major one (4.0) based on Buster.
So from now on:
- Work targeted at Tails 3.x must be based on the stable branch.
This includes mostly not-too-invasive bug fixes.
Work towards installing Tor Browser 9.0 (based on Firefox 68 ESR)
must be based on stable too, because it will be included in 3.17 if
we ever publish that release.
- Work targeted at Tails 4.x must be based on the devel branch,
except important bug fixes during a freeze, that must be based on
the testing branch.
This includes anything that does not satisfy the criteria for 3.x:
new features, invasive or somewhat risky changes, and also anything
whose implementation would differ substantially between Stretch and
Buster (let's avoid having to forward-port stuff at this point).
