Okay, set modest as 0, logged in and set a password, killed x, removed and reloaded nouveau driver with modeset=1. Dmesg spits out a lot of related data (I can pipe it to a text file and send it if you want, certainly don't want to retype that on my phone.. lol) Nouveau loads with modeset 1, the terminal fonts/resolution changes so fb clearly loads as intended, but x fails to load. The only errors of note in the xorg log relates to "failed to open drm device for pci:0000:07:00.0: -19" and /Dev/dri/card0 not found. dmesg has quite a few interesting problems listed that could be related, but this unfortunately looks more and more like a nouveau bug and probably not something that's going to be fixed on your end. Odd that if it's a dri issue that noaccel doesn't do the trick by itself, though, so not entirely convinced it's a nouveau bug.Tell you what, I can repeat this exact method on 3.8 and 3.9rc1 if you'd like and send you both outputs (dmesg and xorg log) so you can compare what's different if you think it could be of value. I hope I'm wrong about it being a nouveau bug, and if you think it can help I'll go ahead and get those to you.12:53 PM, August 20, 2018, Soul Null <soulnull@???>:Well, got to it much sooner than expected. I sent a whisperback report from 3.8 and put your name in the summary, so it should be relatively easy to locate. I can send one from 3.9 as well if you'd like (probably redundant). As to the requested info, it may also be redundant, but for the sake of not making you dig through the whisperback I will include it in the email. GP104 [10de:1b82] (rev a1)GTX 1070 tiI'd love to do some poking around at this point and check some logs to see how much help I could be, but even when I switch to another tty it asks me for a password for amnesia. Since I can't get into gdm to set a password, in not quite sure how to go from there... And in my googling I didn't see a default anywhere, so I leave it in your capable hands for now. Oh and not related, but "troubleshooting" mode appears broken here. Just sits for about 2 minutes then says it failed to find a valid init (something like that, can provide more specific details of you'd like) . Not sure if that's widespread or an issue with how my system is trying to load it, but worth noting nonetheless.10:59 AM, August 20, 2018, Soul Null <soulnull@???>:3:30 AM, August 20, 2018, intrigeri <intrigeri@???>:Hi,thank you for this report. Some questions below.Soul Null: 3.8 loaded x and ran stable,Without adding any startup option on the kernel command line? That's interesting. I would love to see a bug report sent withWhisperBack from Tails 3.8 running on this hardware. Will do this tonight. And correct, no kernel params. Ran fine out of the box. Ran best with 1080p at 120hz (though with massive tearing. Even detected my display by name and everything). At 4k (the default in settings) it fell back to 30hz and scrolling was unbearable. Didn't seem very accelerated at 4k, but desktop effects were present. Tested a 1080p YouTube video at one point in 3.8 and it played just fine at 1080p, but same video when in 4k mode was a slideshow. Seemed like there may have been limited acceleration at 1080p, but not 4k... If this info is at all useful.>Could you please follow the debugging instructions on
https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/graphics/ so I get enoughinfo to document the workaround that works for this card andinvestigate this further?I'll have this for you hopefully tonight. Any help you can provide is appreciated, and any help I can provide is absolutely welcome, so don't hesitate to ask. Will do what I can.:)Cheers!-- Sent from Yandex.Mail for mobile-- Sent from Yandex.Mail for mobile-- Sent from Yandex.Mail for mobile
