> 'Protest and Presence: The Political Voice of the Marginalised'
>
> The aim is to explore the role of activism and protest as vehicles for marginalised voices to be heard (Polletta 2002; McGarry and Jasper 2015). We are interested in proposals that investigate the impact of protest and activism upon democratic citizenship, public space, and minority representation, outside of conventional political channels. It aims to examine how the participation of marginalised voices helps to foster a sustainable social and political environment. It also interrogates the risk that in the process of being included into the public sphere the political voices of the marginalised can become sidelined, co-opted or de-politicised.
