It is with great pleasure that the Province of Mantua and the Tallinn
University invite you to attend the Conference "The representation of
minorities in the media".
The event will take place on Monday 3 Mat at 9.00 at "Teachers' house"
(Õpetajate maja, Raekoja plats 14) in Tallinn .
The conference will be introduced by Raivo VETIK (Professor of
Comparative Politics, Institute of Governance and Political Science,
Tallinn University) and Paolo POLETTINI (Co-ordination of the "In Other
Words" project, Provincia di Mantova). Among the speakers, the
conference will host Mari-Liis JAKOBSON (Institute of Governance and
Political Science, Tallinn University), Dr Myria GEORGIOU (London School
of Economics, Dept. of Media and Communications), Claire FRACHON
(journalist and media consultant), Jevgenija GARANŽA (Editor in chief,
Den za dniom), Priit HÕBEMÄGI (Ekspress Group), Hanna KANNELMÄE
(Estonian Gay Youth), Natalja KITAM (Journalist, founder of Ethnoweb),
Tarmu TAMMERK (Media Ethics Ombudsman at the Estonian Public
Broadcasting Company Eesti Rahvushääling), Getter TIIRIK (The Estonian
Chamber of Disabled People).
The aim of the Conference is to rise the awareness of the role and
reality of mass media across Europe, how they influence intolerant
behaviours, and how, on the contrary, they may contribute positively in
combating discrimination and promoting cultural diversity. The
Conference will deploy data from the European Project "In Other Words".
