Media- and Culture Studies
The department Media- and Culture Studies (MCW) organises and contributes to courses in the Bachelor's programmes Theatre, Film and Television Studies, Communication and Information Studies and Musicology as well as to the Master's programmes Comparative Women’s Studies, Film and Television Studies, Arts Policy and Management, Music Studies, New Media and Digital Culture, and Theatre Studies.
MCW is characterized by an interdisciplinary environment, where a group of young, enthousiastic academics work in a dynamic and inspiring setting. In principle, all teachers are capable of teaching in a variety of courses in the Bachelor’s Programmes of the department.

Gender Studies hosts courses at the BA-level, a one-year MA, a two-year Research MA, a two-year Erasmus Mundus MA and a PhD programme.

At the Department of Media- and Culture Studies there is a vacancy for an: Assistant Professor of Gender Studies (0,8 fte)

Job description

We are seeking an experienced senior lecturer/researcher. As a teacher you are required to be broadly deployable within the framework of interdisciplinary gender studies with a specific emphasis on gender and ethnicity, contemporary feminist cultural studies and/or feminist science studies, in particular on Research MA and PhD-levels.
Additionally, the candidate’s research field is located within feminist cultural studies, in particular in relation to psychoanalysis, semiotics and poststructuralism, and/or the terrain of feminist science studies.
Candidates applying for the position are required to have extensive experience within relevant international networks, interdisciplinary (teaching) practices and are required to have published in abovementioned fields.

Qualifications

For this position we seek a candidate holding a PhD degree in feminist cultural studies and/or science studies with extensive teaching experience (including curriculum development) and managerial experience.
Evidently, candidates are required to have excellent didactic skills. The main teaching language in the Gender Studies Department is English.
Additionally, we maintain teaching and research connections with the departments of literary studies, art policy and art management, language and culture studies, and new media and digital culture. The candidate for the position of assistant professor may also be required to lecture at these departments from a gender specific angle.
Non-Dutch speaking candidates are required to reach fluency in Dutch within two years of appointment.

Terms of employment

We offer a 0,8 fte appointment for 2 years (renewable, subject to performance review), with the possibility of tenure upon first renewal.
According to University regulations (Functies, Loopbanen en Waardering (FLOW)) you are expected to obtain basic teaching qualifications within this period of time.
Depending on your experience and overall record, your monthly gross salary will be minimally € 3,195.- (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities) and maximally € 4,970.- (scale 12), based on a full-time position. The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition we offer: a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible employment conditions.
