*WHITE TERROR
A neo-nazi video originating in Scandinavia provides the starting
point of an investigation of extremist networks in Europe, North
America and Russia. Their propaganda is a message of hatred, war and
segregation.
Over the past five years, there has been a significant changeover
among radical far-right extremists: the veterans are no longer
around, either dead or too old. New ideologists are emerging all over
Europe, North America and Russia. They do not necessarily shave their
heads; they have created corporations, distribution companies, music
clubs, magazines, publishing houses, internet sites and they have
replaced the old symbols by new ones. With globalization taking a
firmer hold and with clear demarcation lines blurring, the hate
mongers are rekindling the fires of the past, blowing on their
glowing ashes.
In this era of new technologies, the United States and Sweden have
been deeply shocked to discover their youth inciting racist violence,
which has since contaminated the whole of the Western world as well
as Russia and its neighbouring countries. The spreading of racist
propaganda via the internet and the growing number of racist books,
pamphlets, magazines, CDs, audio and video tapes are reaching an
evergrowing audience.
In this context, neo-nazi ideology seems to have gained new
territories and found fertile ground for their propaganda. For its
younger representatives, the past is virtual history where the real
cannot be distinguished from the fake; their version of the future
looks bleak and threatening. Almost sixty years after Second World
War, the United States have become the stronghold for masterminding
nazism.
White Terror is the last part of a trilogy on skinheads, hate and
racism. Over two years of investigation on the most active extremist
groups have revealed the international links between them from
Stockholm to Dallas via Moscow.
Daniel Schweizer, director of acclaimed documentary Skinhead
Attitude, investigates the forces that hide behind the "White Power"
and the "New Racists" slogans.

Il regista, nel suo peregrinare tra Svezia, Russia e sud degli Stati
Uniti, riesce a restituire la giusta dimensione alla crescente
proliferazione del fenomeno neo-nazista nel mondo: non più fenomeno
isolato da tenere in relativa considerazione bensì collaudatissima
organizzazione la cui capacità di coordinamento e comunicazione è
capace di travalicare ogni confine. Un'organizzazione assolutamente
non acefala (ma i veri promotori restano nell'ombra, ahche se qui i
capi nazionali si vedono e parlano) che mira alla destabilizzazione
della democrazia. E questo non senza complicità da parte di alcune
realtà istituzionali che, nella migliore delle ipotesi, non sanno
come reagire.
Al regista riesce ciò che appare impossibile: infiltrarsi in varie
organizzazioni neo-naziste, xenofobe e parlare con capi e adepti, tra
mammine tatuate che aborrono l'idea di una società multietnica per i
loro figli e candide bambine già avvezze al saluto nazista.
White Terror, prendendo le mosse dall'omicidio di un giovane
simpatizzante neo-nazi avvenuto a Interlaken, riesce a illustrare in
modo mirabile il terreno socio-culturale in cui nasce il fenomeno.
Alla fine traspare una realtà inquietante. Sono molte le persone che
simpatizzano con il movimento, pur scegliendo di tenere le distanze
dalle sue azioni. Le autorità spesso conoscono benissimo responsabili
e adepti ma, in nome di una malintesa difesa della libertà di
espressione, lesiva di gran parte della società, non trovano appigli
validi per un intervento.

«Skinhead Attitude» is the first documentary which outlines the
history of forty years of skinhead movement - from its extreme left
to its extreme right wings. Starting by asking for the most recent
development of the movement, the film describes the transformation
and radicalisation of this subculture of youth.
