sul vile attacco delle forze di occupazi=
one alla sua sede centrale

A: I lavoratori e la classe lavoratrice ira=
chena
L'opinine pubblica irachena, araba e mondiale
I sostenitori della=
liberta', della democrazia e dei diritti umani nel mondo

Le forze di =
occupazione americane, impiegando un contingente di circa dieci
mezzi co=
razzati e decine di soldati, hanno attaccato la sede centrale
temporanea=
della IFTU a Baghdad (nella sede del Sindacato dei Trasporti e
delle Co=
municazione nel distretto di Khark, Alawi al Hilla) alle 10.30 del
matti=
no di sabato 6.12.2003, arrestando otto dei suoi leader e quadri, che
so=
no stati ammanettati e portati via con destinazione sconosciuta.
Gli agg=
ressori hanno saccheggiato e distrutto i beni della IFTU, strappando
ste=
ndardi e manifesti che condannavano atti di terrorismo, macchiando di
ve=
rnice nera le insegne della IFTU e del Sindacato Generale dei Lavoratori=0D
=
dei Trasporti (sulla facciata dell'edificio) e sfondando le finestre, sen=
za
dare alcuna ragione o spiegazione. La IFTU, una delle piu' importanti=

organizzazioni della societa' civile, che include nei suoi ranghi i fig=
li
della classe lavoratrice, costruttori del nuovo Iraq e del futuro
de=
mocratico del paese, condanna vigorosamente questo ingiustificato atto di=

terrore da parte delle forze di occupazione, che ha preso di mira leade=
r e
quadri del sindacato, che erano ben noti per la loro lotta contro l'=
odiata
dittatura.
Nell'invocare l'immediato rilascio dei nostri collegh=
i detenuti, e nel
condannare ogni tentativo di lanciare ulteriori attacc=
hi alle sedi
sindacali, o di ricorrere ad altri arresti di esponenti del=
sindacato,
assicuriamo che la classe lavoratrice irachena non perdonera=
' questo
attacco, che costituisce una flagrante violazione della democra=
zia e dei
diritti umani.
Pertanto invitiamo tutte le forze di buona vol=
onta' nel nostro popolo, cosi'
come le organizzazioni sindacali e intern=
azionali, a prendere ferma
posizione contro questo atto, rivendicando l'=
immediato rilascio dei detenuti
e il risarcimento dei danni inflitti ai =
nostri colleghi e alla sede della
IFTU in conseguenza di questa aggressi=
one.

about the Vicious Attack
by Occupation Forces on its Hea=
dquarters

Supporters of Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights all over=
the world

The American occupation forces, using a force of about ten =
armored cars and
tens of soldiers, attacked the temporary headquarters o=
f IFTU (at the
headquarters of Transport and Communications Union, in Ka=
rkh district, Alawi
Al Hilla) in Baghdad) at 10.30 am, Saturday 6/12/200=
3, and arrested 8 of
its leaders and cadres, who were handcuffed and tak=
en away to an unknown
destination.
The attackers ransacked and destroye=
d IFTU's possessions, tearing down
banners and posters condemning acts o=
f terror, tarnishing the name of IFTU
and that of the General Union of T=
ransport Workers (on the building's main
front) with black paint and sma=
shing windows glass, without giving any
reason or explanation.
The IFTU=
, as one of the most important organizations of civil society, that
incl=
udes within its ranks sons of the working class, the builders of the new=0D
=
Iraq, the democratic future Iraq, strongly condemns this unjustified
ter=
rorizing act by the occupation forces which targeted trade unionist
cadr=
es and leaders who are well-known for their struggle against the hated=0D
=
dictatorship.
While calling for the release of our detained colleagues a=
s soon as
possible, and condemn any attempt to launch a new attack on tr=
ade union
centres, or further arrests of trade union leaders, we stress =
that the Iraqi
working class will not forgive this attack which constitu=
tes a blatant
violation of democracy and human rights.
We, therefore, c=
all upon all the forces of goodwill of our people, as well
Arab and inte=
rnational trade union organizations, to take a firm stand
against this a=
ct, and to call for the immediate release of detainees, and
compensation=
for the damages inflicted upon our colleagues and IFTU
headquarters as =
a result of this aggression.
